Description

Our shorelines are more than just scenic vistas—they are bustling underwater byways for migrating fish. Discover the hidden world of juvenile herring and other marine life with Jess Newley from Friends of the San Juans. Join us for an enchanting, guided hike along the picturesque shoreline, from Lime Kiln State Park to Deadman's Bay. As we stroll, Jess will share her favorite stories and environmental insights that have inspired Friends of the San Juans’ Immersive Salish Sea Education Program. You'll learn about the vibrant marine ecosystem and see firsthand the magic that Jess captures in her world-renowned underwater photography—all from the comfort of dry land. Space is limited, so don’t miss out on this adventure. Register now to reserve your spot!

We'll meet at Lime Kiln State park at 4 pm in the lower parking lot near the restrooms. Please plan to arrive at Lime Kiln a few minutes early so we can begin a brief orientation promptly at 4 pm. We'll hit the trail from there stopping at select points along the way for insights from Jess. We'll take about an hour to meander over to Deadman's Bay and everyone will be free to explore the beach and make their own way back to Lime Kiln State Park  after our time together.
